Copenhagen - a list of must sees

If you are ever visiting my amazing capital - these are the sights I recommend:

TOURIST must sees:

Tivoli–  The oldest and the best amusement park in the World.  It has an amazing garden full of flowers, and is worth a visit just for that, and the many restaurants and bars too. And don't forget it is heaven for kids all ages. You will have hours of fun here.

Glyptoteket– An amazingly beautiful museum with art and sculptures in great surroundings. The ceilings are famous and so are the cakes in the café in the big winter garden.
Nyhavn – Probably where most tourist go to have a bite to eat, and look at the pretty pastel coloured houses next to the old ships. Nyhavn has a large variety of restaurants & bars, and the place is buzzing in the Summer. You can catch Canal tour boats here too. A trip around the harbour is amazing.
Amalienborg – The palace of the royal Danish family - the Palace consists of 4 mansions, one has been renovated for the Crown Prince Frederik and  Crown Princess Mary and their 4 children. When you visit you must take a walk in the Queens own garden - Amaliehaven - for a grand look at the Opera house.
The little Mermaid–  We love her, but as a dane you'd say there is not much to see:) But see her and then go for a walk by the waterfront and take in the sights around Kastellet - all the way to Amalienborg.

Kongens Have - One of my favorite parks here. It has an amazing rose garden, as well as Rosenborg Castle. The park has a Puppet Theatre in the summer and a fab playground for the little ones. A popular destination for everyone who likes to relax and take in the beauty of the park.

Botanisk have - Our botanical gardens, which has the most amazing selection of flowers, trees and huge greenhouses with exotic plants from all over the world. Calm and lovely place to go all year. I especially love it there at Autumn when the colors on the trees are amazing.

The Royal Theatre - Houses our Royal Ballet company and has a large list of amazing ballet and Opera being performed. The building itself is stunning.

The Round Tower - An astronomical observatory built by our King Chr.4. It is 34,8 meters tall - and you walk all the way - no lift. Good exercise and amazing view from the top.

Statens Museum for Kunst  - Our main art museum. It has contemporary collection as well as several exhibitions throughout the year. Amazing building and a great park surrounds it too.

Don't forget to visit with kids - loads of activities there.

Shop AMOK:
In city centre of Copenhagen most of the shops are around our mile long shopping street Strøget. - but remember to walk down the side-streets too. That's where you find loads of small boutiques.

Illums Bolighus – An interior design Paradise - with all the favorite classics. Über cool design - in a very impressive shop. A must see destination for design lovers.

Hay – Fab Universe filled with Scandinavian streamlined, graphic, and very cool design. Loads of bits and bobs, as well as cool textiles, ceramics, and furniture. I think you'd find something there to want for sure
Stilleben – A small shop which has specialized in ceramics, glassware and décor from both Danish and foreign artists.
Rue Verte – Lovely shop selling fab interiors - you can be spoilt for choice here,

Illum - Cool department store with a lot of fashion brands, and a huge selection of cool toys, and fab interiors.

Where the locals eat/drink:

Joe and the Juice: Cool coffee and juice eatery. The music is loud and the atmosphere chilled.

Pastis -  French bistro with the best Steak Frites in town - fab ambience

Beau Marché - French wine bar & petite dishes - their interiors shop rock too

Kafferiet  - Turquoise coffee heaven - small but very sweet

Granola - Hip coffee/brunch place - if you like a squeeze

Den lille fede -5 courses + wine included = a no brainer

Café Victor - Where we go to be seen - it also has a mean Pariserbøf (steak tatare)

Geist - Our only real danish celebrity chefs' newest venue - nice food, nice wine, nice place

Café Sommersko - Gotta love that french vibe

Noma  - We would eat there if we could get a table :)

I will be adding more places soon - so keep coming back for more. If you have any questions or need a recommendation, do send me an email. Thanks for reading.

  1. Loved your blog. I'm an Australian with a keen interest in Scandinavia especially interiors and photography. I enjoy textiles and enjoy the creativeness of talented people.

  2. I miss Torvehallerne! And if you're there, to pick a coffee at Coffee Collective. I have lived in CPH for a while, and by seeing your blog, I miss it so much! It's the most beautiful city ever and ever.

  3. Was there a few weeks ago. Will be in Copenhagen in August ♡
